From President Hugh Quinn:
Alright guys, we’ve gotten thru Easy Day, Texas Scramble, Team Points, Member-Member, Split Sixes, Member-Guest, Five-Club Memorial, and both Club Championships. Now it’s time to get serious and play some golf!
Next up on the TGA Tournament Schedule is the heated annual rivalry between the Hatfields vs. the McCoys. The dates are October 20 and October 21. The first round will be on the Championship Course with tee times beginning at 12:30 on Saturday. The second round is on the Reynolds Course on Sunday with morning tee times beginning at 8:30.
A pairings social will take place on Wednesday, October 17 at 6 pm at Walnut Hall.
For the uninitiated, this event pits one group of players against another in a two-day match play event. Usually we have about 20+ players on each team. Each year, new players are assigned to one team or the other. Returning players stay on the team they were originally assigned. In the pairings party, teams are put together by the respective captains and then matches are formed. Each player plays against another individual player in a match play format and each player also has a partner and that team plays against the two opponents. A point system, same as the CGA Interclub, is used which awards 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. So in each foursome, there is a total of 6 points available. Each individual match counts 2 points and the team match counts 2 points. Handicaps are used.
For the past 3 years, those despicable McCoys have used trickery, deceit, and downright ornery behavior to beat the Hatfields. The Hatfields are gunnin’ for the McCoys this year so you can expect a shootout at the OK Corral. The winners get to trash talk all year and the Hatfields have had to listen to that for a long time now so it’s time for a change.
Besides the trash talking, the winners get to eat steak while the losers get burgers and dogs at a post tournament party immediately following play on Sunday in the Clubhouse.
If you are a handicap-only member, you can sign up for this fun, two-day event. Your entry fee would be $25 plus your green/cart fees.
