TGA Triumphs in Interclub Play

After the first three matches of Interclub play this year, Team Tanglewood had 2 wins and 1 loss (beat Forest Oaks home and away and lost to Oakwoods away). The past three weekends saw an away match at Lenoir on August 10, which we lost 22 – 14. Last weekend, we beat Oakwoods at home by a score of 25-11 which matched the score they had beaten us at their place. Then, yesterday, Team Tanglewood beat Lenoir by a score of 28-8!!! We finished the regular season of Interclub play with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. We tied Oakwoods for first place in our pod and since we had split with them in our matches and had the same number of points, we moved to the next tie breaker where we had 120 total points to their 113 points. Team Tanglewood has won our pod!

Now we advance to the first round of the Playoffs which start in September. We will find out soon who our opponent will be. In the playoffs, 12 members of each team play but what is different is that 6 players will play at the opponent’s course and 6 play at Tanglewood on the same day. Due to our club championships the first two full weekends of September and green aerification on 9/16 and 9/17, we will be looking at late September dates for our first round match.

Thirty-five TGA members played in at least 1 match or served as an alternate this year which makes them eligible for the playoffs.

Despite the heartburn it creates for me to compliment a McCoy, I do want to thank “Mister” Hartson for serving as our interim Captain for the last three matches as I am on work assignment out of state. Mark and I have had many discussions and I really appreciate him taking on the responsibility for the matches. So thank you “Mister”!

Hugh Quinn, a proud Hatfield!
