Trailing by one entering the final round, Mark Absher got as hot as the weather! After an even par 35 on the front, he broke away from the field by making 3 birdies on the back against a lone bogey to finish with a 68 and a two day total of 144! Great performance!
Mark Nieters, in sick bay all weekend, finished second at 151. This is the third straight year a Mark has won the CC. In 2017 and 2018, it was Mark Nieters.
David Brown finished third with rounds of 77 on both courses. Not bad for a senior from the golds!
Mark Harper pulled of a cool double today. He hit both par 5s (from the Gold tees) in two! Number 8 was playing at 570 and number 14 at its max of 614! We have scheduled the blood test!
In Men B, Chris Thomas earned first place gross with 161 over BJ Richardson at 162. And Glenn Makitka took first place Net at 144.
In Senior Men A, Dickie Brewer earned a one shot victory with a two day total of 152, over Greg Howard at 153.
In Senior Men B, Jim Williams earned first gross with a two-day total of 157. Mark Robson nabbed first net with 146.
In Super Senior Men, Hugh Quinn shot 150 to take first place gross. Chip Baker shot an incredible 129 to take first place net!
We had two great days of late August weather, hot and steamy, except that this is late September! Lots of refreshments were consumed, including water. Both courses were in fine shape. Greens were great on both courses; although considerably slower, the Reynolds greens were very smooth and a good pace for bent grass this time of year. And then we come over to the Championship and we’re on glass! Quite the contrast at dear ol’ Tanglewood. These two courses really test your game.
We celebrated Mike Wilcox’s birthday yesterday with the free ice cream he provided! Thanks Mike!
Thanks to Mark Nieters, Brian Sainz, Jim Williams, Hayes Smith, Steve Livingston, Joe Brooks and others for your help with scoring, refreshments, and all other duties as assigned!
Next up is the Senior Club Championship which is next weekend. Entries are closed. Then on October 19-20, we have the infamous McCoys vs. Hatfields annual battle. More on that next week.
