2020 Regular Inter-Club Update At Oak Valley

from Mark Neiters, Inter-Club Captain on June 7th

After finally being able to kick off the CGA Interclub season, team Tanglewood traveled to Oak Valley yesterday for our first match of 2020.

In 2019, they were not in our pod but they posted a very strong home record for the year. It was a really close match all day long and in the end, team Tanglewood pulled it out by a final margin of 41.5 to 38.5.

Mark Harper Jr. torched the course with his length and played very well all day. He and I shot a better ball 63 between us to win some much needed points with a 7 point margin.

Brian Sainz and Dave Larmour had a very close match with no one getting or giving any shots among the foursome. A couple of late putts didn’t fall for them and they wound up losing by 1 hole, for a 3 point loss.

New comer Chad Carter had a great round with Interclub stalwart Eddie James to win by 4 points.

Our anchor match ran into a bit of a buzz saw. At one point Jim Williams and Charlie Fisher were 5 down in the match. They continued to fight however and were able to drop the margin significantly by the end of the match to lose by 5 points, which was big for the team. That enabled us to hang onto the narrow margin late and claim the victory.

Oak Valley did a great job hosting us. If you know of a member out there, let them know they did a great job as a host club. Thanks to Brian for having the team over to his deck for a post-round celebration and beverage, all while practicing social distancing of course…

The CGA instituted live scoring for Interclub this year and it’s open to anyone who wants to follow the matches. Download the Golf Genius app for your phone and enter 2020podrh as the GGID. That will give you access to see all matches in progress and results. It was pretty neat in use yesterday.

Next up is a home match vs. Oak Valley on 6/20.

As Lee Ross would say, “TANGLEWOOOOOOOD!”
