The TGA Super Senior Interclub match vs Rock Barn at home June 10th was extremely tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first match, Greg Howard and Mike Utt were all square in their match through 13 holes before their opponents went on a three hole binge with net scores of 3, 3, 3 to go 3 up. Our guys responded with 3s on #17 and #18 to claw back and only lose by one hole. They shot a net 65 and their opponents shot a net 63. Mike was a last minute sub for Scott Wearn who was ill. Fortunately Mike was the acting captain yesterday and was able to slide into the opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the second match, the famous Long Bros, Tom and Del, were 1 down after nine before their opponents won three out of the next four holes to push their lead to 4 up. But our guys fought back winning 3 of the next four holes to get to 1 down. That\u2019s how it finished. Our guys shot a net 69 to their opponents 68.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019ll skip the third match for a moment and go to the fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the fourth match, Mark Hartson and Larry Fine found themselves in a dog fight, going 3 down after 10 holes. They then won #11, 12 and 14 to get to all square. The opponents won #16 and 17 and the match finished as a two hole loss. Our guys shot net 74 to the opponents 72.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, we had lost 3 matches but they were all close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Back to the third match with Charlie Fisher and Benny Murrill, our guys came out on fire with a birdie on #1 but cooled off with bogeys on #2 and 3. After pars on #4 and 5, they were one up. Then after making four straight 3s on #6, 7, 8, and 9, they finished the front nine 3 up. On the back, the first two holes were tied with pars before the blitz started. Our guys won the next five holes in a row to get to 8 up with two holes to go. They tied #17 and Benny drained a 25\u2019 putt on #18 for a birdie and a nine up win! Our guys shot a net 63 to their opponents net 75. Benny shot an incredible 66 with a 31 on the back nine! Charlie pitched in with a couple of birdies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So the final score was 40.5 to 39.5 with Team Tanglewood on top! It goes back to the motto of the season \u201cEvery Point Matters\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
