The TGA\u2019s Super Senior Interclub Team played its final match of the regular season today vs. Meadowlands at their temporary home course, Jamestown Park.
This match was just about as crazy as last week\u2019s match at home vs. Rock Barn.
In the first match, Todd Brown and Chris Ingram were playing in their first match of the season and Chris\u2019s first match ever in SSI. They jumped out to a 2 up lead after 5 holes but their opponents won the 6th and 9th holes to finish the front nine all square. The opponents birdied #10 to go 1 up and Chris made a net eagle to win #12. The opponents won #14 to go 1 up again. But Todd eagled #15 and birdied #16 to take a one up lead. Both teams parred #17 and both teams birdied #18 and we had a 1 up victory. Our guys had seven 3s on the back nine for a net 29. They shot a net 61 to their opponents net 62. What a match!
In the second match, Lee Ross and Mike Utt started off hot winning the 1st hole and the 4th hole with Lee\u2019s birdie . Lee eagled #6, Mike birdied #7, both of them birdied #8 as did one of their opponents. They finished the front nine with a 4 up lead after shooting a net 30 on the front! Mike birdied #11 but their opponents won #12 for their only win of the day. Our guys won the next three holes to get to 7 up. After halving #16 and #17, Lee won #18 with a par to finish 8 up. They finished with a net 65!
In the third match, Craig Spadt in his first SSI match and Hugh Quinn went back and forth with their opponents all day. Only two holes were tied on the front and the opponents had a 1 up lead after nine. On the back it was more of the same, only two holes were tied and the opponents won 4 holes to our 3 holes. They won the match two up. Our guys finished with a net 75 to their opponents net 73.
In the final match of the day, Donnie Holt and Joe Crocker lost the 1st hole but won the 2nd hole. Joe was a late sub as Mark Hartson had to withdraw due to illness. They tied the 3rd hole. But then lost the next 6 holes on the front nine to fall 6 down. Their opponents won #10 and #12 to go 8 up. Our guys won #14 but lost #15 to go back to 8 down. #16 was tied and Donnie won #17 to get to 7 down. At this point with one hole to play, the overall team match was tied. So #18 would decide the outcome of the match. All four players hit the green in regulation. After Donnie and the opponents missed their birdie putts, Joe rolled his in for birdie! Although they lost 6 down, Joe and Donnie had no idea that the last hole proved critical to the overall team match. Team Tanglewood won the overall match by a point: 40.5 to 39.5\u2026 same score as the previous week vs Rock Barn. Our motto is \u201cEvery Point Matters\u201d and this was proven again today. Well done Team Tanglewood SSI!
This completes our regular season. We won three matches, tied one and lost 2. The overall CGA Interclub regular season goes into mid July so it will be a while before we know if we make the playoffs.
