from Jim Williams, Hatfield Co-captain

Another Hatfield’s and McCoy’s battle is in the books.
For the 6th year in a row, and the 8th time in the past 9 renditions of this event, the Hatfield’s were victorious 140 – 136!!
After taking what appeared to be a comfortable lead after the Saturday Four-ball matches (59 – 37), the Hatfield’s had to sweat the outcome as the win was in doubt all the way to the final pair of singles matches on the course. The McCoy’s came to play on Sunday, taking a number of the singles matches 6 – 0, and winning the majority of the matches on the day.
Waiting on the final matches to conclude, the Hatfield’s needed to garner 4 points out of those two matches. Phil Bell was able to win his match 4- 2 to provide enough points for the victory. For good measure, Glenn Levine took 1 point for the final margin of victory of 4 points. Not sure what happened to the steaks for the winners, but the victory still tasted sweet!!
Attached are the score sheets for both days – if you want to see how your buddies fared over the weekend.
We tried a little different format for this year, as the McCoy’s continue to try to find ways to slow down the Hatfield juggernaut. This one almost worked!! There are a few tweaks that could be made to the format used this year, but I believe the majority of matches were competitive, with many of them going down to the last holes both Saturday and Sunday.
A big thank you to the captains for both teams for putting the pairings together in what amounted to one of the closest matches in the 22 year history of this event. After this year, the series is tied 11 – 11. And a special thank you to Jeanne Dale for again being there to present the trophy to the winning captains. Glad she continues to be a part of this event.
