2023 Regular Inter-club vs Salem Glen

from BJ Richardson, Regular Inter-club Co-Captain

Tanglewood played their fifth regular season interclub match at home against Salem Glen on Sunday, July 2nd . We needed to win one more during the regular season in order to qualify for the playoffs. The pressure was on, and Tanglewood was up to the challenge.

Match one had Kenny Flynn and John Kennedy taking on a tough and younger duo. Their A player came out hot and made 4 birdies on the front nine, and our guys were 3 down after nine. Kenny was fighting a balky putter, but John was rolling his, and our guys got it back to just one down. A par by Salem Glen on 18 secured the win for Salem Glen with a 2 down loss for our guys.

The 2nd match of the day had BJ Richardson and Kenny Davis together for the first time in interclub. BJ struggled a little on the front 9, but Kenny had his back, and this team went 1 up after 9. Tanglewood then birdied 10, and were off. They got it to 3 up and held the lead thanks to a strong birdie on 17 by Kenny which matched the opponent’s birdie. It was a solid 3 up victory.

For our 3 rd match, we had Pete Schantz and Patrick O’Shields together for the first time and proved to be a good pairing. After tying the first hole, Pete and Patrick played steady and finished the front 9, 2 up. Our guys kept it 2 up through 13 then kept up the strong play and finished with a 5 up win!! We might see this duo together during the playoffs. Great playing!!

For our anchor match, we had a familiar TGA veteran, Charlie Fisher, with Interclub rookie, Jeromy DeBord. After tying the first hole, Charlie naturally birdies the 2nd and this team never looked back, finishing the front 9, 4 up!! Our guys then bounced back and forth, going up 5 at one point, but finished the match at 4 up. Something tells me that Charlie could have gone even lower!! Great playing from our anchor match.

This was a great win by Tanglewood today. This should have secured our playoff spot for this season. We were up against the wall and had to make something happen in order to make the playoffs and our guys were up for the challenge. We have our last regular season match away at Oak Valley next Saturday. Let’s chalk up another win and try to get a good seed position for the playoffs.

Let’s go Tanglewood!!
