from Brian Sainz and Mark Harper Sr., Senior Co-Captains
On Thursday, April 25th, the Senior Inter-club team traveled across the river to Oak Valley in what was one of the mostly evenly (handicap-wise) contested matches in recent memory.
In each of the four matches, the most strokes given/received was two.
As it would turn out, nearly all the matches played out as close on the course as they looked on paper.
Tanglewood played well, but ultimately we got our rear-ends handed to us. However, there were some great efforts and scores from our guys.
Our lone loss, but again, outstanding play by our guys, was the first match. Scott Wearn and Tommy B shot 71 and 73, respectively, for a best ball 70 (two under!) but their opponents shot a best ball 63 – nine freaking under!!
In match two, Terry Payne played outstanding, and his partner helped out just enough to shoot a best-ball 69, and eek-out a tie. Terry shot a smooth and easy 75, with several huge clutch putts, but one of the Oak Valley guys shot a GROSS 71, and he’s currently sporting an 8.0 index!!
In match three, Tom Long and cart-man, Inter-club rookie Jeff Smith also eeked-out a tie. Both Tom and Jeff shot very well (80 and 78), for a best ball round of 72, but the Oak Valley guys kept hitting it close and knocking in putts of their own.
In the fourth and final match, yet, another tie, Charlie Fisher and Glenn Makitka also played exceptionally well. Charlie shot 76 on his own ball, and best-ball the two shot 74, but it wasn’t enough as Oak Valley was just as tough and shot a 72.
All in all, it was a beautiful day and their course was in great shape for April. We played well, but it was not enough.
Next up for Senior Tanglewood are three straight at home matches. We begin May 7th with a re-match against Oak Valley, followed by May 15th against Stoney Creek and May 22nd against Colonial.
TANGLEWOOD!!
