2025 Interclub: Maple Chase vs Tanglewood

First Round Play Offs –Carolinas Division

from Mark Harper, Jr.-Captain

Today (August 10th), Tanglewood took on Maple Chase in the first round of the playoffs.

We had myself and Stevie in the first group at Tanglewood. We got up early, but Maple Chase birdied 6 of the 7 middle holes to take a 3 up lead after hole 11. We won #12 with a shot and birdied #13 to cut it to one. Then they both birdied #16. We ended up losing 2 down. 12-8 Maple Chase on points.

2nd match at Tanglewood was Chris Martin and Josh Dalton. Both played well. They made the turn 2 up. Losing 2 holes on the back but winning 2 holes remaining 2 up at the end. Maple Chase had a 7′ putt at #18 to force a playoff and missed. 12-8 on points for Tanglewood. All square in points and team matches.

1st match at Maple Chase was Kenny Flynn and Kenny Davis. “Kenny’s” won holes 3 and 4 before losing next 3 holes and each team winning one hole coming inward. Tanglewood down 1 at the turn. “Kenny’s” were able to “ham & egg” winning 4 holes to Maple Chases’ 1 hole on the back. Winning match 12-8 on points & 3 up on holes.

Last match at Maple Chase was David Summers and Patrick O’Shields. Front 9 was “alot of pushes”. Maple Chase winning 2 holes to our 1. Back 9 was a different story, each team won 3 holes, so it came down to the last hole. Maple Chase was able to win that one to go 1 up in match but Tanglewood won on points–11.5 to 8.5.

Team Tanglewood wins on points– 43.5 to 36.5. Close matches, but we showed grit and pulled away with a strong back 9 from each of our teams. We move on to face the winners of Sapona and Meadowlands.

If you missed the Calcutta on Friday evening, you missed some really good food and a great time. Many thanks to Dan Eldridge for cooking 10 pork shoulders at a combined weight of 91 lbs. They were cooked for 20 hours and they were perfect. Dan donated the pulled pork and buns to the TGA. Thank you Dan!

Mark Harper, Sr and his wife donated enough Cole slaw and banana pudding to feed 80 folks. The food was excellent! Mark’s wife has a catering business and it’d be our pleasure to get you the contact info for your next event. Thank you for your generous contribution.

Steve “Chef” Felenczak cooked up some excellent German Potato Salad. The best, very best I’ve ever had. Thanks Chef!

We had baked beans to go along with this comfort food fest.

The leftovers were donated to the Clemmons Fire Station on James Street. They seemed pretty happy.

Many, many thanks to Brady Rockey’s wife Michelle and his daughter Peyton for driving the beverage cart on Sunday. They liked this group so much they’ve signed on for the Club Championship!

And finally, many thanks to Hugh Quinn, 2nd VP Steve Livingston, Joe Brooks, Treasurer Tom Long and President Glenn Levine for all the help with running the weekend’s activities. We couldn’t have done it without them!
