from Mark Harper, Jr-Captain
On May 31st, Team Tanglewood traveled to Colonial Country Club for our 4th match of the season. It was very windy and wet conditions which made for a tough day.
Our first match was myself and Mark Nieters. We got down early losing the first hole, winning the 2nd hole but losing holes 3,5 and 8 making the turn 3 down. We were able to rally and win holes 11,14,and 15 before we both bogeyed 18 to lose 1 down. 11.5 to 8.5 Colonial.
Our second match was Mark Harper Sr and BJ Richardson. They were in a back and forth match most of the day, with each team winning 2 holes on the front 9. Tying 10 -13 before losing 14, and 15. They were able to pull with in 1 but could not complete the comeback losing 1 down as well. 23 – 17 Colonial after 2nd match.
Third match was Chris Martin and Jim Williams. They got up 2 through 6 before losing 7 and 8 to have the match squared. They won hole 9 to take a 1 up lead but then it was all Colonial on the back nine winning holes 10,12, 14,15, 16 and 17. They shot a Gross 32 on the back pulling away from Tanglewood. 36.5-23.5 Colonial.
Last match of the day was Patrick O’Shields and James Davis. Again like the rest of the matches, they won 3 holes on the front and Tanglewood won 3 holes on the front with a par on 9. All square after nine holes. Halving the first 5 holes on the back nine before losing hole 15 to go 1 down. We were able to win 16 but quickly lost hole 17 to lose another close match by 1 point. Colonial ended up winning 48.00 to 32.00. Big margin of victory for every match being so close, but the extra 2 points in every match adds up quickly.
Not the performance we had hoped for but everyone played well and battled in tough conditions. We were able to add 3 more guys on the roster for the playoffs, putting us at 21 guys who have played in at least 1 of our 4 matches.
Next up is Twilight Golf who uses Holly Ridge as their home course for Interclub. We will go to Holly Ridge on June 14th to try to get back to our winning ways.
