On May 28th, Team Tanglewood’s Super Senior Interclub Team played Rock Barn CC on the Championship Course today. With all the rain yesterday and overnight which continued off and on thru the first few holes of our match, the course was saturated. Fortunately once it stopped it didn’t take long to drain except for the usual spots. By the time we finished, the sun was coming out.
In the first match, Greg Howard and Tom Birrittieri’s opponents shot a net 31 on the front to take a two up lead after 9 holes including a hole out eagle on #9. With another net birdie on #12, their opponents went three up. But our guys came back winning the 13th and 14th holes to get to one down. But bogeys on #16 ended our rally and the opponents won the match two up shooting a net 65 for the round. Our guys shot a net 68.
In the second match, SS rookie Lee Ross and Mike Utt took it to their opponents early and often on the front nine finishing with a three up lead. The teams went back and forth for the first four holes of the back nine exchanging wins. The only hole tied on the back nine was #14. Our guys won #15, #16 and #18 against their opponents’s win on #17 to win by 5 up after 18! Our guys shot a net 65. Great introduction to Super Senior Golf for Leevon!
In the third match another SS rookie, Del Long and his partner Richard Gottlieb were one down after two holes but won #4, #5, #8, and #9 to jump to a three up lead after 9 holes. The back nine was more conventional with only three holes exchanging hands. Their opponents won #12, we won #17 and the opponents won #18 giving us a two up win. Our guys shot a net 73. Another great introduction to Super Senior Golf for Del!
In the final match, Donnie Holt and Joe Crocker lost the first hole, won the next two, lost the fourth hole, won the next two holes with ties on the next three holes leading to a 2 up lead after nine holes, Their opponents won #10 and #11 to tie the match, But our guys won #13 and #14 to get back the two up lead. And Donnie closed it out on #18 with a birdie for a three up win. Our guys shot a net 70.
Great win for Team Tanglewood today! Final tally: Team Tanglewood – 46; Rock Barn – 34. This brings our record to 2 & 1. Next up is a match at home on June 11 vs Bermuda Run West.
