2022 Regular Inter-Club at Bermuda Run

from BJ Richardson, Regular Inter-Club Co-Captain

Saturday, April 2, 2022, started Tanglewood’s Regular Interclub season with a visit across the mighty Yadkin to Bermuda Run. The weather was nice with just a little chill in the air.

It wouldn’t stay cool for long however with the leadoff team of Mark Harper Jr. and John Kennedy heating it up early, winning their first 5 holes!! They kept the pressure on and closed it out 5 and 4 with Jr. making 5 birdies and JK making 3. Jr. finished up with a 2 under 70 (with an ‘easy’ 33 on the back!) and JK with a solid 75.

The second team had a pair of captains with Mark Harper Sr. and BJ Richardson. This was a hard-fought match that never saw one team get more than 1 hole ahead of the other.

Determination paid off however, and a late 12-foot birdie putt from Sr. on the 17th hole par 5 put the team 1 up with one to play. The match was closed by 2 pars from each team on the 18th making it a 1 up victory.

The third team consisted of interclub newcomer, Andy Packard, and interclub stalwart, Charlie Fisher. Charlie quickly took Andy under his wing and said “don’t worry, everything is going to be just fine.”

The two had quite a battle on their hands as well, but a late birdie on 17 from Andy put the team 1 up going in to 18. Charlie then worked his interclub magic and played
18 without his ball ever touching grass until it hit the green, and then one putted for bogey (figure that one out). He matched the opponent’s bogey for a 1 up victory.

The final team consisted of David Wilson (fear the beard), and another interclub newcomer Shane Hawks. This team ran into a buzzsaw early. And a hot putter from one of their opponents, had this team down 6 after 9. Despite being down, our guys didn’t give up, stayed positive, and fought hard and halved the back 9. This was a perfect example of fighting for every point, despite being down. They were able to maintain and help Tanglewood pull off the away victory 43.50 to 36.50.

Congratulations to the guys for getting the win with their first match of the year.

We also want to send out a thank you to Bermuda Run for being gracious hosts and providing pizza, wings, and drinks for everyone after the match was over.

Lets all keep practicing and get ready for the next match, just one week away at Salem Glen.
