from Mark Harper Sr., Interclub Co-Captain
Team Tanglewood traveled to Salem Glen for a Regular Interclub match today and chalked up a huge 42.50 to 32.50 road victory.
It was great win for Team Tanglewood, as we used four guys who were rookie Interclub players. Brady Rockey, Pete Schantz, Kyle Smith, and Daniel Mureness had never played an Interclub match before. All four helped their partners to a victory in their matches.
Tanglewood played like family today, as in brother-in-laws. Both players in each of our matches contributed.
Terry Payne and Kenny Davis were the first team out and both of them played hard, but Salem Glen had a birdie on 17 to take a 1 up lead, and Salem Glen secured a 2 point win with a par on 18. Terry and Kenny said it wasn’t pretty but they played big to keep it tied until the 17th.
In the 2nd match, Josh Dalton and interclub rookie Brady Rockey put a sound thrashing on their opponents. They got up early and cruised to a 3 point victory. Josh was hitting bombs off the tee and Brady kept the pressure on their opponents by getting up and down several times to scratch out a half on several holes.
The 3rd match had a pair of rookies in Pete Schantz and Kyle Smith. They were the consummate brother-in-laws today. They took the fight out of their opponents early with great putting. When they made the turn one of their opponents was even par and was very frustrated about still being down 2 holes. When Kyle cooled off on the back, Pete took control and shot a slick 39. They finished with a 5 point victory.
The last match had the pairing of Dan Mureness and Hendrik Weichelt both of which were regular interclub rookies. They started off a little slow, but the pressure of giving up so many shots took its toll on Salem Glen on the back 9 and Dan and Hendrik scored a 5point win.
This victory puts Tanglewood at 2-0 and in first place in our pod’s standings.
Tanglewood has one more away match at Oak Valley before having 3 home matches in June.
