2023 Senior Inter-club versus Meadowlands

Can you say 4-0, Baby??

The Senior Interclub team can!!

The Senior guys from Meadowlands came to visit Tanglewood today, and brought some very strong players — and a secret weapon in former TGA member Hendrik Weichelt, but Team TANGLEWOOD prevailed 43-37 to push our record to 4-0 and guarantee we’re playoff bound.

We won in what has become familiar fashion – our lead groups sets the tone early, our middle groups perform solidly, and our final group wraps things up in sometimes spectacular fashion. And today they were spectacular.

In a bit of a breach of Interclub write-up etiquette (it’s a new phrase, but you’ll see why in a minute), our 4th team out was indeed very real, and they were SPECTACULAR.

The team of TGA President Steve Livingston (an interclub rookie this year) and partner Dr. Paul Meyer (very first time playing in interclub) won or tied 17 of 18 holes, and didn’t lose a hole until 17. In the process, they built a SEVEN UP lead on the front nine, and “held on” to win 7-up — and they were giving six shots in the match.

But, as always, we needed every single one of those points because Meadowlands was tough.

Back to the correct write-up etiquette, our first team was ALMOST spectacular as well. The team of Gregor Howard and Glenn Levine shot a net 30 (yes, 30) on the front 9 to go two up. Both teams shot net 34’s on the back, and our leaders brought home a 2-up win.

In our second match of the day, partners Rodie Marovich and Jim Williams, playing in their first Senior Interclub match of 2023, ran into a buzzsaw who shot the best round of the day, and just about shot his age — with a smooth 71. But Rodie and Jim played well and played hard, won the last hole to finish 2-down — and remember, every single point is important.

And finally, our third match of the day was very similar to the 2nd match – our guys ran into a hot golfer. Charlie Fisher and Joe Crocker, playing in HIS first match of 2023 saw one of their opponents shoot his best round of the year, and they lost a hard-fought match 1-down.

It was a beautiful day; it was a great match, and the Meadowlands guys were a lot of fun – as have been all of our opponents.

With today’s match, we were able to add four new players to our playoff eligibility roster, which (so far) tallies 26 players.

The Senior Interclub team takes a couple of weeks off, and will finish the regular season with matches on May 30th at Meadowlands, and June 1st, at High Point Country Club (aka Willow Creek).

If you see these guys around, please take a moment to congratulate them on a great match today.

TANGLEWOOD!!!!
