TANGLEWOOD!!!
3-0 and playoff bound!! (we think!)
The Senior Inter-club team traveled all the way across the river to Bermuda Run East today.
Bermuda Run did NOT bring their “A” guys, and we did. We were giving up anywhere from six to 14 shots in all of our matches. Those were tough odds to overcome.
The conditions were not ideal today, but luckily our guys know a little about playing in the wind.
Our first team out, Todd Brown and Dickie Brewer had to give up 8 shots to their opponents, but still won BIG (and we needed it!) winning 7-up, and securing a 14.5 to 5.5 victory. Todd shot a 74, and Dickie a 75.
Our second pairing included SUPER Senior Captain Hugh Quinn and Glenn Levine. Unfortunately, the 7 shots they had to give up were too much to overcome, but they fought hard, won the last hole and only lost 1-down — and remember, every point makes a difference in the total match score.
Our third match saw long knocking Mark Harper Sr. intimidate the fool out of his opponents. He just about single handedly kept team Tanglewood in the match, but he and his partner lost 2-down.
Last but not least, former Superstar Senior Captain Mark Robson teamed with Eddie James and won their match 3-up, while giving up a whopping 14 strokes to their opponents.
So, while we won two matches, and Bermuda Run also won two matches, we won by MORE points, and therefore won the overall team match.
If we understand the rules correctly, any team finishing with 3 wins should make the playoffs, but we’d like to win a few more matches and secure ourselves a higher seeding. We are currently in first place in our pod.
Our last home match of the regular season is next Tuesday against Meadowlands, followed by two away matches (at Meadowlands on May 30th, and at HP Country Club on June 1st).
So far, we’ve been able to use 22 players in Senior Interclub this year, and we’ll see more fresh faces in our next three matches. This will position us well for a large roster of options for our playoff run.
TANGLEWOOD!!!
