from Brian Sainz, Senior Interclub Co-Captain
Tanglewood’s last team in the Interclub playoffs is out, as our Senior Team (55 and above) fell today to Forsyth Country club, 46 to 34.
While the final score wasn’t what we wanted, our guys battled the whole day. Our guys had to give a lot of shots, and in some matches fell behind early, but battled back.
We lost three matches today, and won one.
The big winners were Glenn Levine and Earl Blink, who battled back from two down with four to play, and took their only lead of the day with an Earl Blink dramatic chip-in on 18 for birdie!
Our other groups also had some notable play, but ran into teams that just played a bit better.
Scott Wearn and Terry Payne battled back all day long, only to lose one down on 18. Terry played well, and Scott played outstanding – carding a one under 70.
Charlie Fisher and Paul Meyer played well all day (Charlie shot a 78!!) but their opponents shot a best ball 68 at Forsyth. That’s a tough score to beat.
And last but not least, Eddie James and Gene Cox played steady and hard, but couldn’t overcome their opponents great short games.
As our season ends, I just want to give a shout-out to all the guys who volunteered and gave up their time (and in some cases, vacation days) to come play with us. We had over 30 different players this year, and each and every one contributed to our success.
Also, I need to give a shout-out to our other captain, Tom Long, who was content to stay behind the scenes but provided invaluable intel on both our own ‘hot’ players, to advanced analytics on our opponents tendencies — AND, he won a match or two for us!
Thank you guys for not only all you continue to do, but also how you REPRESENT Tanglewood. Today, like so many other days, I heard from the opposing team’s players and captain complimenting our team on how much they enjoyed and appreciated our welcoming attitudes, camaraderie and yes …. the course conditions!
We’ve got a great group of guys.
TANGLEWOOD!!!
