2026 Super Senior Interclub: Meadowlands vs Tanglewood

from Hugh Quinn-Captain

The TGA Super Senior Interclub Team hosted Meadowlands yesterday, 5/20, on the Championship Course. In the first match featuring Greg Howard and Scott Wearn taking on their two opponents, after 8 holes, the match was all square. One of their opponent then dunked his second shot on #9 for an eagle 2 to take a 1 up lead after nine. Greg birdied #9 but to no avail. On #10, Scott made birdie and Greg followed up with a birdie on #11 to take a one up lead. It stayed tied all the way to #18. The same opponent who dunked his shot on #9 proceeded to birdie #18 and the match ended in a tie with 10 points each. Greg shot 70 and Scott had 72 and the team’s net was 65.

In the second match featuring Mike Utt and Tom Long, our guys got off to a rough start losing four holes in a row (2,3,4,5) and finishing the front nine 5 down. Mike and Tom shot the exact same hole by hole scores on the front. We’ll have to remind them what brother-in-lawing is supposed to mean. Tom won #10 and #15 to get it to 3 down with 3 to play. But we lost #16 and #17. Tom birdied #18 to win the hole. Overall, we lost 4 down. We got 7 points to our opponents 13. We shot 72 net while the opponents shot 68 net.

In the third match featuring Del Long and Charlie Fisher, both our guys birdied #1 for a win, lost the next two holes and #6 to fall two down. Charlie made net eagle on #8 to win the hole but we lost #9 to finish the front nine 2 down. On the back, we went to 3 down after #12 but then Charlie birdied #13 and a net birdie on #14 to draw within one. On #15, one of their opponents dunked his second shot for an eagle 2. If you’ve been paying attention, that’s the second eagle hole out against us. We won #16 to get to one down. On #18, Del made a clutch 8-9 foot putt for par to give us a chance for a halve. Their opponent had a 6′ putt for par and made it, for a one up win for Meadowlands. Final score – Meadowlands – 11.5 and TGA 8.5. We shot a net 71 to our opponents 70.

In the final pairing for the day featuring Rodie Marovich and Mark Hartson, Mark started out with a birdie on #1 for a win. Our opponents won #4. Mark birdied #5 for a win and one of their opponents birdied #7 for a win. The front nine ended in a tie. We jumped out quickly on the back with Rodie winning #10 and #11 to go two up. Then we got to 3 up after #13. Our opponents won #14. Rodie birdied #16 for a win to go back to 3 up. But one of their opponents birdied #18 to win the hole and we finished 2 up. We had 12 points and Meadowlands had 8. Our guys shot a net 75 to our opponents 76.

Final tally: Meadowlands – 42.5 and the TGA – 37.5.

The overall match was very close overall. And it could have gone either way but it didn’t go our way yesterday. Our record is now 1 win and 2 losses. Next match up is a match on June 3 at Catawba. Let’s Go Team Tanglewood!
