Today our Senior Inter-club team hosted High Point Country Club (aka Willow Creek) at Tanglewood.
High Point brought out the buzz-saws, and we “saw” some incredible play from their top two teams – including an individual 67, a 72, and a 73 and best ball scores of 65 and 69.
But Tanglewood countered the buzz-saws with CHAIN-saws, and while we lost the first two hard fought matches 2 down and 1 down, the 3rd and 4th matches were BIG Tanglewood wins.
In the end, Tanglewood pulled out a 43.5 to 36.5 win, to start the season 1-0.
Some highlights from Team Tanglewood.
- Dickie Brewer shot his age with a 71
- Chuck Burkhart did not have his very best stuff, but came through with HUGE birdies on the back to bring his team back from 3 down, to 1 down and tighten up the match
- Earl Blink and Glenn Makitka, both Senior Inter-club rookies (Glenn just turned 55 a month or so ago) played strong all day long, and similarly fought back from 3 down at the turn, to NEARLY tying it on 17 with an oh-so-close birdie miss, to lose only 1 down.
- Del Long and Gene Cox played out of their minds, and won their match 6 UP!! Del shot 36 on the front, and Gene 38, and slowed down a bit on the back to finish with 77 and 82 – FANTASTIC scores!
- In the final pairing, MISTER Mark Hartson used his considerable short game skills and laid-back quiet demeanor to help inspire his rookie partner Steve Livingston to a 4-up win.
If you see any of these guys around, please offer them your congratulations on a great match today.
Our next Senior Inter-club match is at home hosting Bermuda Run East on Thursday, April 27th.
