from BJ Richardson, Regular Inter-club Co-Captain
Tanglewood played their 2nd regular interclub at Bermuda Run on April 15th.
Match one had Stephen Dunn and Mark Jr. for Tanglewood.
Dunn and Jr. admittedly didn’t play their best but managed to be 1 up after 9. A few birdies from Mark and continued steady play from Dunn, lead them to a 2 up victory in match one.
Match 2 had the captains BJ and Mark Sr. playing against a familiar face, Mark Nieters, aka Bones, and his brother John.
BJ struggled on the front 9, but thanks to solid play from Sr, the two found themselves only 2 down going in to 10. (The Nieters brothers were playing well). Tanglewood turned it on with birdies on 10,11,and 12 to go one up headed to 14.
Insert lesson learned….
After 2 solid drives from Tanglewood with BJ and Sr getting strokes, Tanglewood looked to take control. A few poor approach shots later, BJ had 4 footer for par, Sr had bunker issues. Meanwhile, Bones sinks a 15 footer for birdie, BJ then picks his marker up to go to the next hole. “ No! Sr yells, you get a stroke”. Bones and John said to place the ball back and putt, ( made the putt). Great sportsmanship for those guys. Ultimately, we took the penalty stroke and lost the hole. John went on to birdie 16, and 17 and the captains lost one down.
It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, and lose focus, even for the captains. Always take a moment, talk it over with your partner before picking up. It could mean the difference in your match and the over all team match.
Ok, lesson learned……
The 3rd match of the day had David Wilson and Andy Packard for Tanglewood.
Our guys were back and forth with BR and were all square after 9. David’s birdie on 13 and Andy’s birdie on 14, took our guys to 2 up and they held on to the lead to finish 2 up. Way to grind it out!!
Our last match of the day had interclub rookie, Patrick O’Shields with Michael Gilmore.
Michael struggled a little with his first
BR visit, but no worries, Patrick is an ex BR member, and balled the front 9 for a 38 and put our guys up 4 after 9. Tanglewood continued their great play on the back, for a 7 up win!! Great playing.
This put the overall point total Tanglewood 47 and Bermuda Run 33.
Great win for Tanglewood.
Their course was in great shape and as usual, they were a lot of fun to play with. They will be seeking revenge at our place so be prepared.
Thanks again for everybody’s participation, You guys make it easier for Mark and I to put these teams together each match.
