2023 Senior Inter-club versus Bermuda Run East

2-0, Baby!!! TANGLEWOOD!!

Where to begin??

The weather? It was cold and wet, and grew more cold and more wet.

The opponent? BR didn’t have eight guys to play on Tuesday-day. Found eight by Tuesday night. None had Inter-club handicaps and had to be added manually. Their pairings switched. One of their guys came down with Covid. Their pairings switched again.

The strokes? Due to the above, we initially thought we were playing eight scratch golfers – they all showed 0.0 handicap. Then came the manual updates and their real handicaps. Our guys went from GETTING strokes to giving up anywhere from 8 to 11 shots per match.

Now the accolades.

Tommy Birrittieri playing with a cracked tooth and a pending root canal (had to leave right after the match!!) shot 74 – low round of the day. Beware the injured golfer.

Tommy’s partner Lee Ross (Mr. TANGLEWOOD!! himself) – a Senior Interclub rookie, shooting a smooth 75 – which included a 50′ putt from off the green on 18 to finish his round with TANGLEWOOD!! style.

Gregor Howard and Fred Uberseder (another Senior Interclub rookie!) giving up eight and nine shots to their opponents, yet winning FOUR up and shooting a pair of 75’s.

Eddie James and Tom Long halving a heartbreaker — they were up the whole match until 18. Eddie worked the morning shift then came out and shot 79!! Tom’s score was very good, but didn’t necessarily reflect the key contributions he made with key pars and net birdies.

And last but not least, Charlie Fisher and John Holzwarth (our third Senior Interclub rookie of the match!!), giving up 11 shots, started strong and never let up, winning their match 5 up — giving Tanglewood a fantastic anchor team.

And last but not least, our own Kent Shelton who printed at least four sets of score cards and cart signs – including the last set about an hour before the match started, trying to keep up with the ever changing Bermuda Run landscape.

Tanglewood is now 2-0 in Senior (55 and over) Interclub matches, and will travel TO Bermuda Run next week. Wish the team well!

If you see any of these guys around, please offer them your congratulations.

TANGLEWOOD!!
