from BJ Richardson, Inter-club Co-Captain
Tanglewood played their 3rd interclub match against Bermuda Run at Tanglewood on Saturday June 3rd and Bermuda Run came to play!
Mark Harper Jr and interclub rookie Billy Foshee led off against a familiar face, Mark Neiters (aka Bones) and his long knocking partner. Our guys got off to a hot start with a few birdies to go 2 up after 9, with Jr shooting one under! Their steady play continued for a 2 up win. Nice playing!!
Our 2nd match had Mark Sr. and Kenny Davis taking on a couple tough opponents, one of them being Kris McClellan, a TGA member with some course knowledge of his own. Our guys led for most of the front, but a birdie net eagle by BR tied things up after 9. Then their guys got hot and our guys cooled off and took a tough 4 and 3 loss.
Brady Rocky and Glenn Makitka had a tough 3rd match of their own going 3 down after 9 with some stellar play by BR. Brady and Glenn stayed focused and fought their way back and tied it up after hole 13. These guys went back and forth for the next 5 holes and ended the match all square. Way to hang in there and fight!
The anchor match had Kyle Smith and interclub rookie Zach Barnes going against Brian Bremer and Gabe Wiley. These guys also have a ton of course knowledge, and it showed with Gabe shooting a 37 on the front and taking BR to a 3 up lead after 9. Our guys played better on the back and hung in there but were never able to get over the 3 down deficit.
Ultimately Bermuda Run won 44.5 to 35.5. There’s not much of a course advantage when we play these guys, so it usually comes down to who has their best stuff for that day. This day belonged to Bermuda Run.
This puts us at 1 win and 2 losses. We have 2 more home matches to play, against Oak Valley and Salem Glen and one away match at Oak Valley.
There is still plenty of time to make the playoffs, but we need to get our butts in gear and start playing the kind of golf that we know we can.
Practice hard, play harder!!
Let’s go Tanglewood!!
