The Senior (over 55) Interclub team faced a very tough opponent today in Stoney Creek, located just past Greensboro in the first round of the playoffs.
For those unfamiliar with the playoff format, half the team stays home at Tanglewood, and the remaining half travels to the other teams home course.
It was a great team effort, with team Tanglewood pulling away late — winning the overall match 45-35.
The BIG guns today were the team of Lee Ross and Eddie James. Playing AT Stoney Creek, Lee and Eddie combined to shoot a best ball 67, with Eddie making FIVE (yes, FIVE!!) birdies, while Lee birdied the very difficult 10th hole par 5. They won their match 4-up, for the largest victory of the day.
The other big win today belonged to the team of Mark Harper Sr and Earl Blink. While they weren’t the big guns, they were the BOMBS. The two LONG hitters combined for a best ball 69, and battered their opponents with a 2-up win.
Also at home today were Charlie Fisher and Del Long, who battled long and hard today for a tie. In the closing holes, Charlie made a birdie on 15 to get them to 1-down, and Del made a big par on 17 to tie the match.
In the final match at Stoney Creek, Gregor Howard and Brian Sainz eeked out a halve in their match as well. Gregor played solid AND spectacular today, making clutch putt after clutch putt, and the team finally caught their opponents with a birdie on 18 to halve their match.
Next up for the Senior team is Forsyth Country Club, who advanced to the 2nd round by defeating Willow Creek/HP Country club earlier in the month.
If you see the guys around, tell them congratulations and wish them well in the upcoming matches.
TANGLEWOOD!!
