from BJ Richardson, Regular Inter-club Co-Captain
Tanglewood played their 2 nd round of the Regular Interclub playoffs against Colonial Country Club on Sunday, September 3 rd . Even though it was Labor Day weekend, we still had a lot of our guys volunteer to represent Tanglewood. Much appreciated!
Match one at Tanglewood had Kenny Davis and Josh Dalton teamed up for the first time, and they proved to be a strong team with both shooting low numbers on the front 9 and taking command of the match early. They finished the match with a 3 up win, getting some points on the board for Tanglewood. Great playing!
Match one at Colonial had Jim Williams and Patrick O’Shields also teamed up for the first time in Interclub. Jim and Patrick had a tough match ahead of them as is usually the case, taking on the home team. They held their own well on the front and were only one down after 9. Unfortunately, Colonial got hot on the back and as Sr. described it “started putting on a stripe show” and had our guys 4 down after 12. Jim and Patrick stayed in the fight but lost a hard fought battle 2 down.
For match two at Tanglewood we had Mark Jr. and Stephen Dunn. This was a close match with Tanglewood having to give a few strokes. After the front 9, Tanglewood was 1 down. A birdie on 10 by Colonial gave them momentum and they went on to get the match 3 up after 13. Our guys battled back however but unfortunately ran out of holes and lost 1 down.
For match 2 at Colonial, we had John Kennedy and Todd Brown going up against at least one of Colonial’s big hitting young guns, and we were giving him strokes! Colonial got out to a quick lead on the front 9, and we were 4 down after 9. Sr. said this long knocker also had some short game, and this was on display on the back 9 with this guy shooting a 32 on his own ball! Unfortunately, this led to an eventual loss for Tanglewood, which just seemed to be out gunned.
Tanglewood suffered a 45.5 to 34.5 loss to Colonial, ending the playoff run. This just seemed to be Colonial’s day and there wasn’t much that could be done to stop it. Sometimes we’re on the giving end of this, but today… we were catching.
Mark and I have thoroughly enjoyed captaining for Tanglewood this year and are very proud of all our guys that have participated. We feel that our guys have also done a good job of representing Tanglewood not just for the competitive side, but also for the sportsmanship side of the game. Remember, sometimes when you lose, you really win…. Ok enough of that bs, I’m a sore loser! Let’s go out next year and take this thing deep into the playoffs and pull out a victory!!
Let’s go Tanglewood!!!
